Delaware and Maryland Truck Dealer Ready for New 2011 Ford Super Duty

Ford Motor Company has released the deatails on its new 2011 Ford F-Series “Super Duty” truck. First unveiled on September 24, 2009, the iconic Ford F-Series “Super Duty” did not get a physical make over, however a lot of new technology will be available in the “Super Duty” truck. The only “real” noticeable cosmetic difference we can expect to see is the model and trimline badging moved from the fender vents to the point where the a-pillar meets the hood.

The new 2011 Ford “Super Duty” will come in three different engines. The base trim level engine is unknown as of now, but we can expect a 6.2L V8 gasoline engine and Ford’s new 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel. The new Power Stroke is expected to redefine diesel engines in passenger trucks thanks to a handful of innovations in cylinder head and turbocharger technology. As part of new technology available in the truck you can expect several technologies and gadgets to help business drivers, including an in-dash computer, a tool inventory system and a fleet telematics and diagnostic system.

Preston’s Commercial Division serving Maryland and Delaware is looking forward to the new 2011 Super Duty. Jim Phelps of Preston Commercial Division had this to say about the new “Super Duty”, “The 2011 Ford Super Duty will help business and commercial consumers with the increased fuel efficiency and new technology. We expect to have one of the biggest inventories in Maryland and Delaware for the 2011 “Super Duty” as we estimate that truck buyers will flock to the new F-Series because of the new redefining 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel.”

2010 Mazda3 Awards Top Safety pick by IIHS

The all new 2010 Mazda3 has been awarded the very prestigious “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). To qualify for “Top Safety Pick”, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of good in the Institute’s front, side, and rear tests and be equipped with Electronic Stability Control. Criteria to win are tough because the award is intended to drive continued safety improvements such as top crash test ratings and the rapid addition of electronic stability control, which is standard on most trim levels of the MAZDA3.

Preston Mazda was thrilled to receive this news from corporate Mazda. Already a top seller in the Preston Automotive Group, Preston Mazda’s Sales Manager Harry Willey is even more excited to offer this vehicle to consumers. “This is great news; safety ratings continue to be a top purchase consideration for our customers and with the Mazda3 already a top seller due to the Cash for Clunker phenomena, we are ready to continue to offer this amazing product,” Willey expresses.

Preston Mazda part of the Preston Autoplex in Preston, MD has over 30 Mazda3s in stock and has the ability to get any Mazda3 that a customer may want. “Mazda is known for cars that are fun the drive because they have superb steering, brakes, and overall handling,” said Kim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North America Operations. “This active safety helps avoid the accident in the first place and makes the Mazda3 a perfect example of safety meets zoom-zoom.”

Car Dealer Reaches 330 CARS Deals in Maryland and Delaware; Used Cars is Next on List

The Car Allowance Rebate System is now officially over. The hugely successful program created massive results in the automotive industry. The first result of course was the huge jump in new automobile sales across the nation. Dealers felt like they were back in the “good ole” days of selling cars. The second result the CARS program brought was mixed feeling on dealer’s pre-owned inventory. Some dealers did not see much of a change in the sales of pre-owned vehicles, as people who did not qualify for the CARS program could easily buy a pre-owned vehicle. However most dealers saw pre-owned sales drop and even worse, a huge drop in trade-in vehicles (since all trade-ins from the CARS program were to be crushed).

One dealer, Preston Automotive Group, has seen both good and bad outcomes from the CARS program (mostly good). Preston Automotive who collectively did 330 CARS deals in the Maryland and Delaware areas saw a rather large increase for the dealer group. Sales went up, but trade-in vehicles were low. Sure most of the trade-ins were “clunkers” and were not lot worthy but some of the older vehicles could were lot worthy. And because most deals were CARS deals pre-owned inventory did not grow as fast as it did previously.

The Preston dealership network serving Maryland, Delaware and Virginia has taken full advantage of the program, dedicating countless hours and even an entire building reserved as their CARS information center. After all the work that the employees at Preston had put in, even after the program is over more work is still ahead. However this time the priority is pre-owned inventory.

Many dealers are doing the same thing, even the dealers who are not franchise owners are scrambling to gain more pre-owned inventory. “Sure we can gain more pre-owned vehicles from auto auctions like Manheim, but the reality is that auto auctions are not enough. We must get quality trade-ins straight from the customers themselves to keep inventory levels up,” states Russ Nickerson who oversees all pre-owned inventory for Preston Autoplex.

Preston Autoplex, part of the Preston Automotive Group, has started a new promotion to help gain more inventory. The promotion is simple, Preston wants your vehicle. Preston Automotive is willing to pay top dollar (which means paying good or even excellent condition on Kelly Blue Book standards for fair and poor condition vehicles) for a vehicle even if that customer does not purchase a new vehicle from the dealership itself. “Why waste time trying to sell the vehicle yourself, when you can bring it here and let us sell it for you,” states Chris Marks, the General Manager of Preston Autoplex.

With many programs coming out by dealers designed to increase pre-owned sales and inventory, the wave that comes after the CARS program will be pre-owned vehicles.

Ford Focus is Best Seller with Maryland Ford Deale

Ford Motor Company plans to increase production on the fuel efficient Focus in order to keep up with demands from dealerships all over the country including Preston Ford, a dealership serving Maryland and Delaware.

Preston Ford and its sister store Pittsville Ford; have sold a total of over 25 Focuses in the past couple of weeks, when the cash for clunkers program really took off.  In response Ford Motor Company will be increasing production of the Focus after the strong demand for compact, fuel efficient vehicles shortened the supply of Focuses.

The Michigan automaker has extended plant operations at the Wayne plant to later weekday hours as well as Saturday overtime.  This overtime will lead to about 6,400 additional Focuses produced between August and September.  The Wayne plant has began working 10 hour work days, opposed to 8 hour work days.

The cash for clunkers program is not completely responsible for the spike in sales of the Focus.  Focus sales rose by 44% in July ending the month for Ford with a 25 day supply of the vehicle.  Preston Ford, selling over 25 Focuses, disclosed that only 13 sold were cash for clunkers deals.

According to the Department of Transportation the Ford Focus was the second most popular vehicle sold under the cash for clunkers program.  The Ford Focus is also followed closely by the Ford Fusion and Ford Escape hybrid sport utility vehicle.

David Wilson Jr., Vice President for Preston Automotive Group, stated, “It’s great to see that Ford needs to increase production rather than the earlier months this year when production was shut down.  We have one of the largest inventories in Maryland and Delaware and even we have noticed a large dent in our stock of Focuses and Fusions as those have been our top sellers under the CARS program.”

Preston Ford and Pittsville Ford are members of the Preston Automotive Group.  For more information about Preston Ford please visit www.prestonford.com. For more information on Pittsville Ford please visit www.pittsvilleford.com.

Ford Dealership in Maryland and Delaware Notices Customer Satisfaction

The automotive industry is beginning to pick back up, while government programs have helped in the effort; consumers have demonstrated their faith in the Ford Motor Company brand.  Preston Automotive Group serving Maryland and Delaware has noticed the vast inquiries and large amount sales from their Ford franchises.

In the first week of the government sponsored program, Cash for Clunkers, officially called the Car Allowance Rebate System, customers flocked to Ford dealerships all over the country making the Ford Focus the top selling vehicle for the opening week of the program.  The program also spurred the sales of the world’s first ever Hybrid sport utility vehicle, the Ford Escape, also best selling cross-over during the first week and 6th overall best seller.

Ford’s surge of success with the program led to strong second quarter financial reporting and lessened the possible need for federal assistance.  Thanks to Ford’s dealership network and iron-clad marketing structure, the program was a success and with the recently approved extension of the program should proceed without any hiccups.  Preston Ford, a Maryland Ford Dealership in the Business Preferred Network, has sold over 170 new vehicles under the CARS program and thanks to the extension, continues to sell vehicles with the government incentive.

Ford Motor Company continues to expand their respective markets, with the release of their new commercial vehicle, the Transit Connect and the redesigned Taurus.  The revamped 2010 Mustang and Fusion add to Ford’s momentum in the rebuilding and redesign of the automobile industry and next year Americans can expect to see the all new Ford Fiesta subcompact available for sale in North America.

Ford has separated their company from their competition with innovative ideas and by not accepting a federal bailout Ford has won the respect of loyal patrons and even new customers.  Ford was able to restructure just as well as the competition without federal funding and while Ford has more debt they still are doing much better than GM or Chrysler.

Preston Ford and Pittsville Ford are members of the Preston Automotive Group.  For more information about Preston Ford please visit www.prestonford.com. For more information on Pittsville Ford please visit www.pittsvilleford.com.

Cash for Clunkers Program Extended: Delaware and Maryland New Car Dealer Sales Soar

The Car Allowance Rebate System is back to full speed as word was recently released from the government that the CARS program (previously cash for clunkers) had received an additional $2billion to continue awarding vouchers to those who qualify for this eco-friendly solution to our economic crisis.  Dealerships like Preston Automotive Group in Maryland are ready for continued sales under the program.

The Cars program was originally scheduled to last until November 1st or until the funds were exhausted.  This stimulus plan was short lived as the designated funds of one billion dollars soon ran out just several days after the launch of the program leaving dealerships skeptical about continuing to offer the CARS option to customers.

However, one dealership in Maryland continued to offer their loyal patrons the CARS rebate upon qualification, resulting in over 160 total sales since the beginning of the program.  Preston Automotive Group represents some of the industry’s leading manufacturers such as Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Hyundai, Nissan, Mazda, Suzuki and Chevrolet.

The large dealership network serving Maryland, Delaware and Virginia has taken full advantage of the program, dedicating countless hours and even an entire building reserved as their CARS information center.  David Wilson Sr., CEO of Preston Automotive Group, stated, “Thanks to great planning along with some risk we have managed to increase our sales many fold, giving us outstanding sales at the close of July and kicking off sales in August.”

The motion was passed by the House of Representatives on the 31st of July and later approved by the Senate last night with a 60-37 vote.  The initial budget of one billion had resulted in over 220,000 new car sales, and the additional two billion dollars is expected to last much longer as the initial surge of sales is over.

The additional government backing is enough support to encourage dealerships to continue the CARS option in their deals. Preston Automotive Group has yet to cease their operations and will not do so unless they are certain of the program’s termination.

Delaware and Maryland’s Kings of “Clunk” (CARS Program)

(Left): David Wilson Sr. (Right):David Wilson Jr.
(Left): David Wilson Sr. (Right):David Wilson Jr.

The Preston Automotive Group and their dedicated CARS Champion team have led Maryland and Delaware in sales under the government rebate system leaving the President and Vice President of Preston with the title “Kings of Clunk.”

Owner and President of Preston Auto Group, David Wilson Sr. and Vice President, David Wilson Jr. have worked side by side over the past several years tackling a multitude of projects for the Preston Automotive Group.  However, the CARS program has been a very tedious and even frustrating at times, making this sales booster one of the most difficult projects faced by the father, son duo.

When speculation of the CARS program began it was originally understood as the Cash for Clunkers Program and appealed to car dealerships everywhere as a great way to stimulate sales.  Well the program certainly stimulated sales for those who participated.  The Preston Automotive Group has currently sold about 150 new vehicles thanks to the government sponsored program.

The Automotive Group began selling cars under the program on the official start date of July 1st, even though the complete list of rules and regulations was not published until the 24th of July.  Preston’s CARS Champion team put together a specific process for qualifying CARS and ensuring that all of the proper paperwork was handled and all anticipated required documentation was collected.

Preston revamped and dedicated an old vacant building on their lot for the CARS program, providing written information and a 30 minute long video that provided information on the benefits of the program and benefits of a more fuel efficient vehicle.  The CARS Champion team also attended multiple webinars hosted by NHTSA and NADA in order to refresh their knowledge on the program hoping to retain any and all new information to the program.

The CARS program enabled the Auto Group to draw in customers from Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Pennsylvania.  The Group represents a wide range of makes such as Hyundai, Ford, Mazda, Lincoln, Mercury, Suzuki, Chevrolet, and Nissan although their best sellers were Ford models like the Focus, Ranger and F-150.  Even the all new Ford Transit Connect had sold out within the first week of the Transit’s arrival.

As with any government program, it is easy to get stuck in the red tape and the CARS program was no exception.  Given only 30 days, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wrote and published a system of rules and employed the help of Oracle Inc. to establish a system for dealer reimbursement.

Stefanie Lee along with other select employees worked late hours trying to account for the money promised to them under the CARS rebate system.  Employees ran into problems such as website failures due to unsustainable traffic on the CARS servers, rejections from the CARS site with deals needing more attachments and even changes in MPG ratings from the original fueleconomy.gov website to the new cars.gov website.

Other complications arose as President David Wilson led the CARS team keeping them focused and on task while being careful not to interfere with daily operations.  When the problem of immobilizing the clunkers was brought up, the team soon found that sodium silicate was the solution to seizing the engines and invested in a HAZMAT suit for the individual disabling engines.

With all of the hard work invested into the foundation of Preston Automotive Group’s CARS program, the Preston Group continues to sell under the program and hopes to continue selling under the program with congress’ support in extending the program.  Wilson Sr. and Wilson Jr.’s hard work and leadership ability has enabled their success in the Car Allowance Rebate System and has earned them the title of Maryland and Delaware’s Kings of Clunkers.

Maryland and Delaware Cash for Clunkers’ Customers are Encouraged to use Preston Autoplex

The Preston Autoplex located in Preston Maryland cut the ribbon July 16, 2009 and opened the doors to the CARS Qualifier Center, welcoming car shoppers and informing them on how to qualify for the program.  Those in attendance were Maryland State Senator Richard Colburn, President of Preston Automotive Group David Wilson Sr. and other members of Preston Automotive Group’s CARS Champion Team.

Senator Colburn stood by Preston’s trademark Frog as he cut the ribbon to the CARS Qualifier Center at Preston.  David Wilson Sr. thanked Senator Colburn for attending the event while light refreshments were served following the ribbon cutting.

David Wilson and others of Preston’s CARS Champion team explained that the Preston Automotive Group had already accepted over a dozen deals traded under the CARS guidelines with 9 of the first 12 cars traded being Ford vehicles such as Broncos, Explorers and Expeditions.

Although the majority of vehicles traded were Ford models, 7 of the 9 customers opted to purchase another more fuel efficient Ford model.  One couple traded in their 1985 Bronco and purchased a new Ford Focus, receiving a $4500 voucher for their trade.

The Preston Autoplex statistics may conclude that Ford may be the leading brand for purchases under the new CARS program since Preston’s lot consists of three other franchises; Nissan, Hyundai and Mazda.

The CARS program officially started July 1, 2009 although the final program rules will not be released until the 24th of July, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently drawing up the rules and regulations for qualification and implementing a system for dealerships participating in the program to redeem rebates given to customers.

The program is set to end November 1, 2009 or until the 1 billion dollars allocated for the program is depleted in which case it is uncertain whether congress will invest more money in to the CARS act.

The CARS program or the Car Allowance Rebate System was initiated by congress to provide cash vouchers to new car buyers trading in their inefficient vehicles or “clunkers” and purchasing new more fuel efficient vehicles receiving a credit of up to $4500.
